SOCKO is sired by Mikhail, aka: Mikey of the Running River Ranch (Peter & Patty Houchin)-Mikey's parents are Vucho and Kusha from Dr. Sponenberg's original litter of imports from Bulgaria. SOCKO's Dam is Markie of Massey Creek Farms-Markie's parents are Pirin and Rila of the Running River Ranch (Peter & Patty Houchin).
FYI: There are roughly 700 of these fullblood animals in the world!!! We have taken up the task (with the Houchin's and MANY others!!) to SAVE this amazing dog from extinction!!! We will have two fullblood females growing up here now and will begin to breed fullbloods in 2012 !!! We are very excited about this new venture and hope YOU, our customers, like these amazing animals as much as we do!!!
THE LAZY P RANCH has changed venues on the Lifestock Guardians. We will now be utilizing Karakachan Dogs and Karakachan/Great Pyrenees crosses and Great Pyrenees for Livestock Guardians. We won't have puppies out of this new Karakachan stock until summer 2012 or later. However, completing our "homework" on Guardians, we have found the Karakachan to be just what we need here!! Hopefully, you will appreciate this rare and amazing animal and embrace them as we have. You can learn more about the Karakachan dog at:

SOCKO's PARENTS were imported directly from Bulgaria; like most of the stock in the U.S.
The Karakachan Dog is brave, powerful & loyal & invaluable as Livestock Guardians. For these reasons, and because they are an ancient, hardy and (sadly) endangered breed, we want to breed these majestic animals and get MORE of them OUT THERE!!! Once you meet them, you will feel the same way!!!
While we are extremely pleased with the performance of our PAST guardians, we have chosen to focus on the rare & endangered Bulgarian Karakachans for further breeding. It is estimated that there are only about 700 of these dogs worldwide, and only a handful in the U.S!! So, we have brought SOCKO to the Lazy P Ranch!! We will continue to breed Great Pyrenees for our customers that prefer them, but we will also breed Karakachans! SOCKO will soon be followed by two females, unrelated to him, of course!
In addition, we have purchased LILLY & LORELEI, and they are 1/2 Karakachan and 1/2 Great Pyrenees. Their pups (with T-BO) will be 3/4 PYRENEES, 1/4 Karakachan, for those individuals that do not want (or care) about registered dogs. We will raise these pups (and the two fullblood female Karakachans) while they work guarding our livestock and breed them when they are old enough to provide puppies to our buyers.
